The Rose Report

[Story No. 14] The Bee & The Biscuit

Heading South on Princess Anne Road in rural Virginia Beach, you'll pass through miles of open farm land, and then an oasis appears in the distance. As you draw near, reality sets in that you are about to enjoy a premier culinary experience.

On a recent trip to Pungo, VA for a project with VADronePartners.com, I had the opportunity to enjoy lunch at The Bee & The Biscuit. When you first arrive in the garden waiting area head straight to the "beekeeper" hut to get your name on the waitlist. The 30 minute wait will seem like 5 minutes as you sip one of their refreshing signature cocktails and play a favorite board game like Trivial Pursuit.

Step inside the circa 1919 cottage you'll discover several dining areas, ranging from a covered deck, bar area, and cozy nooks. The friendly waitstaff promptly arrives and shares the specials of the day, and then the dilemma hits -- how do you decide on just one entree? In speaking with the waitress, I learned that over 500 patrons stop by any given weekend and share a similar struggle. That high volume of traffic speaks to both the quality of food, and superior customer service from The Bee & The Biscuit team. You're probably guessing about the food now... so here it is...

Cromwell Mushroom Melt (grilled mushrooms, onion, spinach, cheddar, feta, grilled on whole grain)

The Pungonian Shrimp & Grits (spicy shrimp, cheddar, green onions, herbs, stone-ground grits)

After your meal, you may want to spend some time exploring the 8,000 or so acres that form Pungo. Here are activity ideas within a short walk or drive of 1785 Princess Anne Road.

Beginners Guide to Activities

Military Aviation Museum (WWII Veterans – free admission)

Strawberry Festival (May 27th to 28th)

Cullipher Farm (Fresh local produce)

The next time you get stuck in a rut with city life, hop in your car and make the scenic drive to Pungo, VA.

About the Series: Every week a local business or organization will be featured with the hope to tell their story here on LinkedIn. There are so many great restaurants, coffee shops, and retail venues in Hampton Roads that need a little help getting the word out to the public. The goal is to share a story, that will help people discover something new, whether a Downtown boutique or a beachfront bistro. If you've been to one of the destinations, comment below to share your favorite dish, product, or activity.
