REASON 1: THE LOCATION

Easily accessible by Interstate 64 (exit 231), visitors to York River State Park are immediately welcomed by several miles of gentle treelined roadway curves on approach to the main entrance of the park.

REASON 2: QUALITY OF TRAILS

The 30 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails provide something for everyone. Whether you’re taking a 2 hour foray into the forest, or longer day hike — York River State Park can accommodate nearly every adventure. Since the park staff does a great job of maintaining these well-marked trails, you don’t necessarily have to wear hiking boots, simple sneakers will get the job done.

When planning your weekend hike, one piece of advice would be to plan enough time to explore the various trails. There are two distinct areas of York River State Park. To the West of the visitor center, Taskinas Creek Trail offers a 2 mile moderate hill and valley hike. This area is especially rewarding as it offers views of a tributary just off the York River. To the Southeast of the parking lot, Backbone Trail (2.5 miles) connects the second half of the park. There are several spur trails located off this wide treelined path.
